- W4285152645 abstract "For many years, solar energy has been utilized in the agricultural sector to supply energy requirements of various operations from traditional applications such as open sun drying and crop cultivation in greenhouses to modern agricultural practices using solar-powered farm robots and machinery. After several years of research and development in relative technologies, solar energy has been proved to be the most compatible energy source for use in agricultural and food production systems. Solar energy can be utilized in agriculture in several ways, saving energy and cost, increasing sustainability, and reducing environmental pollution. Recently, some emerging and progressive applications of solar energy in agriculture and aquaculture systems have been located in the focal of global attention which are introduced and discussed in this chapter. These applications are of two main categories: (1) those utilize solar energy in its passive form to perform disinfection and photosynthesis processes for instance in soil solarization and microalgae cultivation, respectively, and (2) applications that employ devices integrated with solar collecting systems such as solar-powered pest controllers, solar-powered bird repellers, solar-powered aquaponics systems, solar-powered fish feeders and fish pond filters/pumps, and solar-powered pasteurization apparatuses. Paying more attention to these solar operations is expected to open up opportunities for further advancements in this field and assist farmers, stockholders, and decision-makers to extensively invest in these sustainable systems and applications, paving the way for their global deployment." @default.
