- W4285153528 abstract "This chapter fills the void in the existing knowledge about the work of climate justice and the role played by civil society organizations across sub-Saharan Africa. The chapter provides a descriptive and empirical analysis of the member organizations of the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA), starting with a brief history of the organization. Then, using original survey data from 121 organizations across 36 countries, we examine the capacity and scope of the work of organizations, including: the geographies of the communities they serve, perceptions of climate change impact on those communities, the organizational prioritization of climate change, and areas of programming focus. Additionally, we examine PACJA members trust in various geopolitical actors, such as their own country, the EU, the US, China, Japan, and sub-Saharan Africa to reduce emissions in order to limit global warming to 1.5 ℃, to deliver sufficient levels of climate finance, and to prove enough transfer of technology to nations of the Global South. The final section examines PACJA members policy advocacy and engagement including: participation in international dialogue on climate change, support for their own nation's climate action plans, trust in their government’s ability to effectively use climate finance, their optimism about future development, their support for fossil fuel development in their own nations, and the perceived scope of reform required to successfully address climate change." @default.
