- W4285154057 abstract "The Denisovans as a population were originally described based on the mtDNA and later nuclear DNA from a phalanx fragment from Denisova cave in the Altai mountains of Siberia. In the last ten years the discovery of several additional fossils at Denisova cave, as well as more in depth genetic analyses allowed us to paint a clearer picture of these enigmatic hominins. Based on genetic data they were likely wide spread in Asia, which is also supported by the discoveries of fossils with Denisovan affinities at Baishiya Karst cave, Tibet and Harbin (China). Modern human populations in Asia and Melanesia carry some DNA introgressed from Denisovans, which in some cases is also apparent in the phenotype. The best example of this is a high altitude adapted variant of EPAS1 present at high frequencies in modern Tibetans." @default.
