- W4285156653 abstract "Mineral-enriched biochar (MEB) amendments are gaining increasing attention in the field of agriculture for their prominent role in soil quality improvement and sustainable crop production. This chapter compiled information on the synthesis of MEB with various minerals, their physicochemical characteristics and roles in the improvement of soil quality and crop productivity. The MEBs showed superior physicochemical properties than pristine biochar, including increased porosity, specific surface area, aromaticity, surface functional groups, nutrient content, and stability of the biochar. Additionally, the mineral incorporation significantly influenced the nutrient slow-release property of the biochar and thus improved the nutrient use efficiency of plants. The addition of MEB as an amendment to soil improves the physicochemical and biological properties of soil, thereby improves the soil quality. The MEB could also be considered an effective amendment for ameliorating problematic soils and help improving crop yields." @default.
