Metal nanoclusters (MNCs) are promising materials in this category owing to their very small size, bright fluorescence, and photostability properties. The ultrasmall metal nanoparticles termed MNCs display molecule-like properties and no longer exhibit plasmonic behavior, also due to the quantum confinement effect, metal NCs exhibit a marked photoluminescence property. Several MNCs, including Au NCs, Ag NCs, Cu NCs, and Pt NCs, have been studied for a decade and reported their excellent characteristics for various applications from industry to the biomedical field. This chapter summarizes the recent advances in the development of MNCs for their biomedical applications, especially in bioimaging and early diagnosis of cancer cells." @default.
