- W4285161796 abstract "People develop a strong sense of attachment and belonging to their neighbourhood and this is the urban scale at which many people experience the city. This chapter shifts in focus from health impacts at ecosystem and planetary scales to the exposures that affect health at the neighbourhood and street scale. Physical activity and social interaction are introduced as important behaviours to protect against disease and support wellbeing. The concepts of perceived safety and culture influence these health-related behaviours and require greater attention among design teams. The Barton Park case study illustrates how a large-scale development supported health services, including social prescribing, and delivered new community facilities that responded to the needs of local residents and a baseline study of their health. Planning and design goals at this neighbourhood scale relate to food, perceived and actual safety, access to services/amenities, culture and public space." @default.
