- W4285162695 abstract "Acetone–butanol–ethanol fermentation is the bioprocess for the production of biobutanol. It is considered as a potential biofuel as it has 30% more energy than others similar to gasoline fuel. The main raw materials for the production of biobutanol are sugar, starch, and lignocelluloses-based materials. End-product toxicity which inhibits the growth is the major challenge in commercializing the production of biobutanol. Process intensification (PI) has the promising capability to develop new and novel processes, equipment, methods, or to make certain improvements in existing processes at equipment or methods level to achieve final products and services in more sustainable way. In principle, a huge number of options for process can be obtained, but it is difficult to identify how and where to have intensification to achieve improvement at significant level. PI has been generally classified as intensifying equipment and intensifying methods. Intensifying method and equipment may be considered as promising approach for the production of biobutanol. In present chapter, basic aspects of biobutanol, process intensification, and its application in production processes have been systematically discussed. Further few various intensifying approaches for the improvement in production of biobutanol have been presented from the list: batch oscillatory baffled bioreactor, air lift reactor with helical flow, bio-augmentation strategy, ultrasound assisted, biofilm reactor, pervaporation reactor, thermo-pervaporation, reactive distillation, membrane bio reactor, membrane distillation, reactive extraction, use of green solvents, divided wall column, multifunctional reactor, pervaporation, hybrid separations, membrane separation, emulsion liquid membrane, super critical extraction, etc. The presented chapter is useful to understand various intensifying approaches for production of biobutanol and its separation." @default.
