- W4285168654 abstract "Objective: For this chapter, we will focus primarily on the endoscopic treatment of bilateral coronal synostosis associated with syndromic synostosis. Background: Syndromic craniosynostosis accounts for 8% to 24% of all patients with craniosynostosis, with bicoronal craniosynostosis being the most common form. The current treatment to correct this pathology often involves three complex operations; however, endoscopic strip craniotomy is a definite alternative to consider in the majority of these children. Out of 500 patients treated endoscopically for synostosis in our center, roughly 7% had a syndromic condition. In our series, two-thirds of the children did not receive any other surgery after endoscopic strip craniotomy and helmet therapy. These patients had all the advantages of an endoscopic suturectomy such as shorter operative times, less blood loss, and shorter hospitalization with less intensive care unit use and surgical goals still being met. Conclusion: Endoscopic suturectomy with helmet therapy can play a role in correcting the major turribrachycephaly often seen in this population. As with all syndromic children the risk of reoperation is significantly higher than for the nonsyndromic single suture population, although endoscopic surgery has had a lower rate of reoperation with only one-third of the children needing to return to the operating room." @default.
