- W4285174858 abstract "Notch signaling is a highly conserved pathway, which was initially discovered in Drosophila development, and plays a crucial role in development and malignant transformation (Baron et al., 2002). Notch signaling is activated by interactions between Notch receptors, large highly conserved transmembrane proteins, and their ligands, namely, Delta, Serrate (Jagged in mammals), and Lag-2 (DSL). Notch-1 and -4 are specific to mouse arterial endothelial cells, whereas Notch-1a/b and -3 are expressed in zebrafish arteries. Mice possess five Notch ligands, Delta-like (Dll)-1, Dll-3, Dll-4, Jagged-1, and -2 (JAG-1 and JAG-2). There are four Notch receptors (Notch-1–4) and five ligands (Jagged-1, -2, Delta-1, -3, and -4) (Iso et al., 2003). Notch receptors are large transmembrane proteins, which, when activated by their ligands expressed on adjacent cells, regulate cell fate in multiple lineages." @default.
