- W4285175045 abstract "The relations and contexts of peer culture are significant in shaping boys’ and men’s understandings and enactments of masculinity. The peer context is a space through which many boys learn the codes of masculinity. This chapter explores Adam’s experiences of male peer culture. It examines how he configures and reconfigures masculinities of control, aggression and domination within the bodily, social and economic patterns of peer relations and sporting contexts over different time periods. The chapter explores how Adam’s affective displays of hegemonic masculinity come into focus within these contexts, offering him much status, pleasure and power as a young boy. However, it also explores Adam’s later questioning of the escalating of hegemonic masculinity within male peer relations and contexts as ‘tragic’ and ‘brutal’ which unravels his attachments to this culture." @default.
