- W4285204554 abstract "Geminiviruses are one of the smallest pathogens that infect a variety of plants and cause major losses of crops worldwide. They have genomes containing either monopartite or bipartite circular single-stranded DNA. The Geminiviridae family has nine genera. The replication-associated protein (Rep) of geminiviruses is crucial for virus replication. As these viruses do not encode their own polymerases, Rep induces differentiated plant cells to reenter the cell cycle to activate the host DNA synthesis machinery by interacting with plant homologs of retinoblastoma proteins. Geminivirus chromatinized DNA serves as a possible substratum for the enzymes involved in posttranslational modification machinery for cellular histones, RNA polymerase II, and other transcription activator proteins. It is multifunctional and is known to interact to modulate the cellular environment with a variety of host factors or to function as part of the replication machinery. The movement proteins (MP or BC1) and nuclear shuttle proteins (NSP or BV1) encoded by bipartite geminivirus DNA-B assist in intracellular and intercellular viral movement through nuclear pores and plasmodesmata, respectively. These two proteins interact with histone H3 and other cellular transporters, such as synaptotagmin, cognate heat shock protein (70 kDa), etc. The function of MP and NSP for cell to cell movement of bipartite geminiviruses is explained by couple-skating and relay race models. Capsid protein serves as NSP in monopartite geminiviruses, and MP functions are performed by V2 alone or in a C4 or V3 complex. In several cases, betasatellite βC1 proteins function as nuclear localization signal or nuclear export signal and assist in monopartite geminivirus transmission. As part of the defense mechanisms of host plants, geminivirus infection results in crosstalk between viral and cellular variables to complete the viral life cycle or counteract the infection." @default.
