- W4285208066 abstract "Summary These sandstones are mainly composed of monocrystalline with straight to slightly undulose extinction, chert, carbonate fragments and potash feldspar that show high textural and compositional maturity. Based on petrographic studies the sandstones of the Khan Formation are classified as quartzarenite and sublitharenites ( Folk, 1980 ), with high textural and mineralogical maturity ( Fig.1a ). Plotting point counting data on (Qt-F-L) and (Qm-F-Lt) ternary diagrams ( Dickinson et al. 1983 ), suggests craton interior and quartzose recycled provenance ( Fig.1b, c ). In addition, based on geochemical diagram ( Roser and Korsch 1986 ), major elements indicate that these sandstones deposited in a passive continental margin tectonic setting ( Fig. 2 ). According to petrographic and geochemical evidence, the sandstones of the Khan Formation derived from a mixture of felsic igneous, moderate-to high-grade metamorphic ( Fig. 3 ), and quartzose sedimentary rocks ( Basu et al. 1975 ; and Tortosa et al.1991 ). Data plot on the diagram of Suttner and Dutta (1986) suggest warm and relatively humid climates ( Fig. 4 ). Passive continental margin tectonic setting and warm and humid paleoclimate condition is consistent with paleogeographic position of Central Iran along shoreline of the Neotethys Ocean during the Early Permian." @default.
