- W4285228216 abstract "Geminiviruses are a group of insect-transmissible viruses with one or two circular, nonenveloped ssDNAs of about 2.5–5.2 kb in size. They can infect a wide range of crops around the world and cause severe diseases that result in significant yield reduction, and thereby pose a serious threat to crop production and food security. Therefore elucidating the underlying molecular mechanisms of geminivirus–host plant interactions are pivotal to the development of novel molecular approaches directing the plant resistance-response against geminiviruses. Moreover, it is essential to reveal all the virus-associated functional components involved in disease development. To date, several efforts were taken to develop different strategies to understand geminivirus–vector–plant interactions using classical molecular biology approaches but with limited success. To overcome this problem, a promising alternative approach is the application of the advancing field of transcriptomics, which has proved to be very efficient to elucidate on the understanding of a surfeit of host plant–geminivirus interactions. This book chapter summarizes a brief overview of transcriptomics and different transcriptomic approaches that have been implemented to elucidate the enigmatic nature of plant–geminivirus interactions. Finally, the importance, present status, and prospects of transcriptomic studies to reveal the untold stories in the context of geminivirus–host plant interactions are highlighted." @default.
