- W4285245624 abstract "In the last couple of decades, carbon dots (CDs) have emerged as a contemporary carbon-based nanomaterial, drawing the attention of research enthusiasts to explore its plethora of attributes. The primary properties of exhibiting excellent optical properties, such as high quantum yields, and long photoluminescence decay lifetimes, low-cost preparation strategies because of easily available raw materials and cheaper methods of preparation involved, biocompatibility and tunable structural functionalization have made it a go to choice for many domains of modern world research. The fields of catalysis, energy, bio-imaging, and sensing have already taken impactful strides towards application of CDs. Despite these advances, not much has been done in exploring the structure of CDs and even the mechanism of photoluminescence remain in the shade. Complying with the widespread applicability of the optical properties of CDs, in this chapter, we have tried to compile the various optical properties shown by them, such as light absorption, photoluminescence, near-infrared photoluminescence, chemi-luminescence, electrochemical luminescence, and phosphorescence. The mechanism of CDs showing photoluminescence has been discussed in accordance with the latest theories available. In addition to this, some light has been shed on the diverse optical applications of CDs with special focus being laid on agriculture." @default.
