The ribs were positioned in the transverse way to the fluid stream. The numerical simulation of a two-dimensional fluid domain was solved using finite element analysis with the help of Comsol Multiphysics tool. A uniform heat flux of 1000 W/m2 was applied to the top aluminum absorber plate. Reynolds number (Re) changes within 4000–7000, relative roughness height (h/H) varied within 0.05–0.4, aspect ratio (h/w) of ribs kept as unity, and a constant pitch of 15 mm was maintained. The optimized relative roughness height was obtained to be 0.075. The maximum achieved Nusselt number and friction factor were 2.93 and 8.83 times over the smooth duct. It was found that trapezoidal ribs with h/H = 0.075 delivered maximum thermal enhancement ratio of 1.78 at Re = 7000." @default.
