- W4285256848 abstract "A foray of active moieties exhibiting therapeutic action on versatile conditions have been discovered by drug discovery modules and high-throughput screening. However, the anatomical constraints of the blood–brain barrier make the transport of these new molecules into the brain difficult, thus inhibiting treatment. A detailed study of the salient features of the components of the blood–brain barrier and the various transport mechanisms for drugs across the same will aid in devising innovative strategies to target the drugs in different brain diseases. Designing nanoparticulate systems, mainly hybrid nanoparticles, encompassing the salient features of nanoparticles like small size, large surface area for loading of drug cargo, availability in varied types and other nanostructures and molecules that help to impart accurate targeting features to the nanoparticles, is thus the need of the hour. Several hybrid nanoparticles like polymeric nanoparticles, solid lipid nanoparticles, liposomal nanoparticulate systems, nanomicelles and dendrimers and inorganic systems like carbon nanotubes, carbon dots, carbon nano-onions, etc., provide a wide range of structural features desirable for making a drug delivery system amenable for stealth targeting in brain disorders. The feasibility of these systems to be functionalized and derivatized thus imparting advanced features are some additional advantages of these versatile nanoparticulate systems. The possibility of loading different categories of therapeutic actives with varying structural features and requirements of administration of small dose, thus leading to low or negligible toxicity makes these hybrid nanoparticulates systems of choice for providing drug delivery solutions to a vast arena of brain disorders." @default.
