- W4285263409 abstract "As an input in soil amendment, biochar has become one of the research hotspots in the field of agriculture and environmental protection. Not all the biochar have excellent performance in the improvement of soil quality. There is a lack in guidelines devoted to the selection of biochar to be used for different types of soil pollution, and this can undermine the bioremediation efficiency. To shed light on this delicate issue, this chapter introduced the types, sources, and characteristics of different soil pollution methods, and the effects of biochar application on the soil’s physical properties (bulk density, porosity, water holding capacity, aggregate stability, etc.) and chemical properties, and explained the mechanism of various biochar remediation techniques. The analysis of optimal biochar remediation strategies from the aspects of biochar physicochemical properties, pollutant properties, and comparison of remediation effects is given a hearing. The impact of biochar on the environmental behavior of pollutants in the soil is discussed, and the existing problems in current research on biochar and the future key research directions are foreshown." @default.
