- W4285282273 abstract "Feminist and pro-feminist scholarship has long articulated and challenged the ways in which boys and men gain agency, pleasure and power through gender and sexuality binaries that position maleness, masculinity and heterosexuality in ascendance to femaleness, femininity and homosexuality. This chapter’s focus is on Adam’s views about and experiences with girls and women. It explores the bodily, social and economic patterns within his life as a young boy and adult that configure and reconfigure his investments in heteronormative masculinities. The chapter provides an account of the complexity of this reconfiguring as Adam matures. While there is a shift away from these investments to reflect a greater appreciation of women and issues of gender equality, this shift is complicated by the affective intensities of indignation and anger Adam feels when he experiences a loss in gender status as an adult." @default.
