- W4285285964 abstract "Replication of geminiviruses occurs in the nucleus of the infected cell through rolling-circle replication, and they take over host transcription machinery for viral gene expression. Geminiviruses encode 4–7 genes, transcribed by a bidirectional promoter in complementary sense and virion sense directions. Mostly, promoters reported from geminiviruses show strong constitutive transgene expression in transformed plants. Recently, a few tissue-specific geminivirus promoters were characterized. Complementary sense gene transcripts appear early in the infection cycle transcribed by an early promoter. The virion sense promoter is known as a late promoter because it becomes active late in the infection cycle. The early promoters are considered stronger than the late promoters. Betasatellites associated with monopartite begomoviruses showed promoter activity for driving the expression of its only gene (βC1). Tissue-specific and inducible geminivirus promoters would be a great use in direct expression of transgene in the tissues normally invaded by these viruses and activation of promoter upon viral infection, respectively." @default.
