- W4285291799 abstract "Energy security is the lifeblood of socio-economic growth. Energy production and consumption is a catalyst for economic cooperation generally and in BRICS in particular. With their stock of natural resources, BRICS countries are an essential contributor to the global supply of energy and its dynamics. Jointly they represent a bloc whose energy safety net has a significant global impact. BRICS nations have developed complementary energy policies to manage energy risks; this has strengthened intra-BRICS energy cooperation by bolstering domestic energy security. This chapter draws on secondary data to identify opportunities and options for energy cooperation among BRICS countries to emphasise areas where BRICS countries can collaborate in energy generation and supply. The chapter seeks to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on energy security and policies in BRICS. It shows that deepening energy cooperation requires a cross-pollination of skills, capabilities, resources, and technologies. BRICS countries have both expertise and technologies to use their energy resources to enhance energy security and cooperation. To strengthen cooperation in Africa, BRICS countries need to move beyond bilateral engagement with African countries towards cooperation with regional economic blocs to treat Africa as a common energy market." @default.
