- W4285296922 abstract "Facial expressions are important non-verbal cues that mediate social communication and interaction. Several studies to date have shown that patients with traumatic brain injury are impaired in perceiving emotional information from different sensory channels (visual, auditory, and audio-visual), using different stimuli (face, body, prosody), and through different paradigms (matching, labeling, or discrimination task). In this chapter, we have reviewed the literature regarding emotion perception deficits reported in traumatic brain injury subjects. We have discussed the main neural correlates of facial recognition in traumatic brain injury patients identified by different methods and techniques. Moreover, we have commented on the possible effects of emotion’s perception impairments on social cognition and how these deficits can provide predictive information on the functional outcome of these patients, with the final goal to implement better and more adequate rehabilitation strategies." @default.
