- W4285304857 abstract "In contemporary philosophy, concern for environmental and general existential sustainability has attracted engaging ethical debate. This is owing to the conventional perception that it is a universal, objective, absolute requirement of justice that living people obligate life’s vital resources to posterity on an intergenerational basis due to some statutory expectation of them to do so. The obligation often assumes either a deontological or consequentialist understanding of morality. However, because the posterity and the world environment concerned consists more of remote future people than the immediate world, the immediate factual non-existence of such posterity and world environment presents a fundamental obstacle to actualizing the responsibility. The gap in time disconnects present-day people from the future world that they are obliged to. Treating responsibility to posterity as an objective norm is considered to be insufficient for motivating people to discharge the conduct. This is because people are not fundamentally accorded the personal or subjective inspiration required to urge the obligation. Urging the obligation (and sustainability), therefore, requires a motivational assumption that is more elemental and subjective in approach. This essay is stimulated by this requirement; it applies a deductive method of philosophizing to posit traditional African ethical intuitionism as the moral lifestyle that would sufficiently motivate people to discharge the obligation by fostering a sense of subjective interrelation with the future and the environment." @default.
