- W4285307483 abstract "The substantial augmentation in charge conductivity, which is achievable by suitable doping, renders π-conjugated polymers, such as polyaniline, polypyrrole, polyindole, polythiophene, and polyethylene dioxythiophene, appropriate for a wide range of applications. These π-conjugated conducting polymers (CPs) are not only conducting, but possess numerous other unique properties, such as being lightweight, wettable, transparent, electrochromic, mechanically flexible, structurally tunable, nontoxic, easy to produce, and having electrochemical properties. Owing to these unique properties, π-conjugated CPs find application in electrochemical energy storage (EES), such as supercapacitor and battery manufacturing. This is because they can store charge through redox reactions with electrolytes; this is interesting and renders them promising as electrode active material. Further, owing to their flexibility, redox-active properties, and wide range of electrolyte compatibility, they have been exclusively studied for their possible application in various cutting-edge EES devices, including rechargeable batteries, microenergy storage devices, electrochromic energy storage modes, flexible batteries, stretchable energy storage devices, and pseudocapacitors. Additionally, the higher packing density of π-conjugated CPs than that of conventionally used carbon electrodes, leads to the improved volumetric performance of the associated devices. This chapter accounts for the various cutting-edge EES modes resulting from the incorporation of various π-conjugated CPs that exhibit a varied range of chemical structures and tunable electrical conductivities. Besides, the chapter presents an ephemeral discussion regarding current challenges and the forthcoming concepts that reflect further development in the performance of CP-based energy storage modes." @default.
