- W4285337519 abstract "This chapter explores the rhetorical composition of the hybrid epistolary correspondences of Charles Olson and Diane di Prima in the 1960s and early 1970s. Olson wrote to the Gloucester Daily Times to advocate for the preservation of historical buildings and natural ecosystems. Di Prima wrote partly to complement the Diggers' counterculture street theater in San Francisco, providing practical tactics for perpetuating and surviving a revolution and emphasizing the Edenic nature of the material universe; several were published in the Liberation News Service newspaper, and the set became the opening texts in her Revolutionary Letters. Both Olson’s and di Prima’s letters employ techniques associated with Beat prosody, including the prophetic voice, a mixture of popular culture and literary language, the lament and the jeremiad, and the invective, with both recognizing the role of the poet as the keeper of human history through language." @default.
