The chapter discusses how counterfactualism examines the net results of colonization in the metropoles and the former overseas possession, deconstructs the categories of the grand narratives of European expansion, rediscovers the capacities for action, and apprehends the future fears and hopes envisaged through the counterfactuals formulated by contemporaries.
