- W4285357768 abstract "This chapter inspects what a critical-creative pedagogical approach to teaching social science students about economic challenges could look like. It presents the neoclassical orthodoxies against which demands for more pluralist and heterodox teaching have been made. The chapter particularly looks at how these alternative approaches can help students to understand the rethinking of mainstream economic principles forced by the COVID-19 pandemic. The chapter then turns to Bolivia's pluralist and solidarity economies to analyze how ethnographic accounts that ground economic theories in specific contexts can lead to experiential teaching. To extend this discussion to the imagining and building of diverse community economies, the chapter draws on J.K. Gibson-Graham's work of making visible, including in university classrooms, alter-and non-capitalist economies. The chapter elaborates on two teaching activities: in the first, students create personal diverse economy portfolios to resituate themselves as diverse economic subjects; the second is a collective exercise to design the plans for a recycling cooperative." @default.
