- W4285809233 abstract "Biosynthesis of copper sulfide nanoparticles (CuS NPs) is reported in this study. Leaf extract of Urtica dioica has been used as an alternative to chemicals, as a reducing/stabilizing agent. The synthesized CuS NPs have been annealed at temperatures; 100, 180, 250, 320 and 390 °C to study the changes in structure, morphology and composition of the formed CuS NPs with varying temperature. The as-synthesized CuS NPs were found to be amorphous in nature and their crystallinity was observed to improve on annealing from 100 to 320 °C. The XRD pattern revealed formation of Cu2S (monoclinic structure) at 320 °C. SEM images displayed morphological changes and some structural growth on annealing, which was most pronounced at 320 °C, however signature of melting and re-solidification of CuS NPs was observed afterwards at 390 °C. The FTIR study illustrated the presence of different functional groups namely C-O, C = O and O-H in synthesized nanoparticles due to the use of Urtica dioica leaves extract, which played the role of reducing and capping agent. Agglomeration of particles was observed by TEM measurements. The absorption peak of CuS NPs annealed at 320 °C was found to be around 425 nm corresponding to an enhanced optical band gap of about 2.17 eV." @default.
