- W4286256670 abstract "Scalable fabrication of cost-effective electrocatalysts with remarkable and outstanding stability for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is extremely desirable and remains an apparent challenge. Inspired by the porosity structure of the watermelon rind, this work presents the first novel ruthenium-doped transition metal watermelon rind support catalyst. Interestingly, rather than doping Ru particles individually on carbon support, the fabrication mechanism of the hybrid nanoparticles exhibits a strongly enclosed porous Ru-Mo2C framework and, also, Ru3+ cations have a tendency to accommodate Mo2C in a basic medium owing to the electrostatic attraction that supports synergism between Ru and Mo2C. The Ru-Mo2[email protected] °C catalyst displays a remarkable low overpotential of 41 mV and an outstanding stability of 450 h at a current density of 10 mA cm−2 for HER, together with a small Tafel slope of 43 mV dec-1 in 1.0 M KOH solution. In particular, the ruthenium-doped transition metal carbide modulation facilitates hydrogen adsorption and promotes the formation of porous Ru-Mo2C coordination and also enhances the conductivity. This work demonstrates a new practicable way for the simplistic design of biomass-based electrocatalytic applications." @default.
