- W4286267955 abstract "We congratulate Shin et al. [ [1] Shin J. Hwang J.H. Han M. Cha R.H. Kang S.H. An A.S. et al. Phase angle as a marker for muscle health and quality of life in patients with chronic kidney disease. Clin Nutr. 2022; 41: 1651-1659https://doi.org/10.1016/j.clnu.2022.06.009 Google Scholar ] for the fundamental study, which investigated the utility of the phase angle (PhA) to estimate muscle health and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). First, our attention was directed to the use of available data from a randomized clinical trial with patients with CKD. The availability of population data favored the feasibility of the present study and emerges as a fundamental strategy for scenarios such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Another aspect that aroused our interest refers to the eligibility criteria and sample heterogeneity. The authors used 149 patients with CKD from six different hospitals in Korea, with both sexes and age ≥20 years. Initially, as it is a population study, it would be important to prepare a sample calculation that would give greater reliability to the number of subjects used in this scientific work. Second, it is widely known that body composition is influenced by age and sex, for example women undergo changes in muscle and body mass levels mainly due to the menstrual cycle, in addition we suggest standardizing the age group, to avoid confusion bias, because of variability in levels of PhA, muscle mass, strength, and other neuromuscular variables during the life cycle [ [2] Curtis E.
