- W4286445626 abstract "Foundation soils are broadly classified as cohesionless and cohesive soils based on their contrasting properties. Stabilizing them for construction purpose is a challenging process. Chicken feathers are the waste products of poultry, restaurants, residential and food supplying units. These feathers present a disposal problem and are usually converted to animal feed. Hence in this project an eco-friendly approach has been made to use these wastes as a potential source of usable fibers for stabilizing sand. Some research works carried out using Chicken Feather Fibers (CFF) in expansive soils (clay) prove to be effective. An attempt has been made to study the variation in index and engineering properties of sand modified with keratin structures achieved from chicken feathers at different proportions. From the experimental results, the optimum percentages of CFF observed for sand were 2%, 1% and 1.5% at σ = 0.5 kg/cm2, 1.0 kg/cm2and 1.5 kg/cm2 respectively. The percentage increase in strength noticed was 43%, 32% and 21% respectively." @default.
