- W4286598027 abstract "This chapter describes the underlying theory for particle separation by the various forms of analytical field-flow fractionation (FFF) and the related preparative techniques of split-flow thin channel (SPLITT) fractionation. Particle separation takes place within a laminar flow of fluid through a thin channel with a transverse field or gradient that drives particles into differing regions of the channel thickness. The FFF techniques separate particles in the direction of flow, separating them according to their differing elution velocities, while the SPLITT techniques separate particles across the channel thickness from where they are diverted to different channel outlets. The FFF techniques can provide information regarding the distribution of the strength of the interaction of the sample particles with the applied field. The different modes operation of FFF and SPLITT fractionation are described, and the various fields used for separation are discussed with regard to the particle properties that may be analyzed." @default.
