- W4286599537 abstract "The world population is projected to increase drastically to 9 billion in the year 2050. Therefore, there is a need to search sustainable means of meeting the food to needs of the ever growing population. The application of agricultural pesticides leads to high level of pesticides residue on agricultural food commodities and development of resistance to insect pests and pathogens. Pesticide oversuse and the polution has constituted a high level of hazards to humans and pertubations in the ecosystem. There is the need to search for biological substances that are eco-friendly and sustainable, without posing detrimental effects on living organisms including man that could help to effectively mitigate the effect of environmental pollution associated with pesticide use in agriculture. The application of biosurfactants have been identified as a sustainable biological process that could be used for the management of agricultural pests and pathogens. Therefore, this chapter provides detailed insights into the process involved in the production and characterization of biosurfactants involving structural elucidation of the active constituents present in biosurfactants which are beneficial in the management of pathogens and agricultural pests." @default.
