- W4289718826 abstract "This chapter evaluates human enhancement, looking at the concepts of transhumans and posthumans. It might be useful to call enhancements things that improve the functions we already have while extensions add new functions. Somebody who is much enhanced compared to us current humans can be called a “transhuman”; they are clearly better at a lot of things, even if they are not better people in a moral sense. Being a moral or good person seems to be a thing we should always try to achieve — even if it means installing an ethical co-processor in the brain. But could we turn ourselves into a new species, a post-human species? What if enhancement makes us not ourselves? Not everybody agrees on what changes would change how we evaluate ourselves. In fact, people differ enormously in what they regard as defining their own existence, so a change that is fine for one person may be too radical for someone else. The best we can do is to respect different choices, making sure they are well considered and informed." @default.
