- W4290998450 abstract "Scurvy is extremely rare in developed countries but still present. This study reports on the misdiagnosis of two children presenting with diffuse musculoskeletal pain who were suffering from scurvy. A 4-year-old girl showed progressive bilateral leg pain and difficulty walking. She subsequently developed intracerebral hemorrhage without evidence of trauma while conducting several investigations for diagnosis. Another case, a 2-year-old boy, could not walk due to severe bilateral leg and low back pain. Both children were diagnosed as scurvy based on characteristic radiographic findings of the knee joints. All symptoms were completely disappeared after oral ascorbic acid supplementation for 5 weeks in the former case, and after changing dietary habits in the latter case. Scurvy must be considered as a possible differential diagnosis for children who present with unexplained diffuse musculoskeletal pain. Raising awareness will improve proper diagnosis and lead to quicker implementation of treatment." @default.
