Most of the commercially available lubricants are based on petroleum oil, which are not at all biologically degradable and necessitated an alternative for commercial lubricants. The vegetable oil-based lubricants could be treated as a promising replacement for petroleum oil-based lubricants, since they possess superior properties of lubrication and are biodegradable. However, it possesses some major limitations like insufficient oxidation stability and it can be treated via chemically modifying methods and by adding preferable additives which are eco-friendly in nature. In the current study, rice bran oil (RBO) is chemically modified via transesterification using hexanol as alcohol and clove oil is added as an eco-friendly additive. The lubricant properties are evaluated for transesterified RBO, and modified RBO with additive. It was identified from the results that the addition of clove oil has improved the oxidation stability of transesterified RBO significantly. Thus, the characteristics of the vegetable oil could be improved by chemically modifying methods as well as with the addition of desirable additives and thereby it can become a possible feed stock for lubricants." @default.
