As an alternative, a Fresnel-based approach to 3D seismic coverage assessment is proposed and tested using an unusual decimation scheme. The decimated dataset is processed through a modern flow including 5D interpolation and PSTM, and while some expected degradation is observed relative to the full reference data, the decimated final image does not show footprint or character that might be predicted from the irregular CMP fold map. The results suggest that given current processing tools, CMP fold criteria for seismic acquisition may have become not only limited in utility, but mostly irrelevant. If so, new tools for evaluation of seismic coverage are necessary, and new geometries that do not hold to CMP fold criteria can be considered. Keywords: seismic, Fresnel, designPermalink: https://doi.org/10.1190/image2022-3750617.1FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails Second International Meeting for Applied Geoscience & EnergyISSN (print):1052-3812 ISSN (online):1949-4645Copyright: 2022 Pages: 3694 publication data© 2022 Published in electronic format with permission by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and the American Association of Petroleum GeologistsPublisher:Society of Exploration Geophysicists HistoryPublished Online: 15 Aug 2022 CITATION INFORMATION Michael Hons, Dave Simmons, Sean Contenti, and Yong Xu, (2022), Fresnel criteria for 5D survey design: A proof of concept decimation test, SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts : 71-74. https://doi.org/10.1190/image2022-3750617.1 Plain-Language Summary KeywordsseismicFresneldesignPDF DownloadLoading ..." @default.
