- W4292295881 abstract "Many practices in emergency management and public health lack research evidence of effectiveness. Nevertheless, many of these practices, referred to as promising practices, show some evidence of benefit. Promising practices implemented successfully by multiple programs become best practices. The programs presented in this chapter represent promising practices in four areas: policy, regulation and structure, inclusion of people with disabilities, building resilience and behavioral health interventions. Taken from across the globe, these examples attempt to reflect the range of activities that are being explored in order to accomplish better disability-inclusiveness in disaster planning. Elements of planning such as universal design, participation and engagement of people with disabilities and practices that build resilience guide emergency management and public health to promote the reduction of disparate impacts of disasters on people with disabilities and improvement in their recovery from disasters. While these promising practices require further testing and dissemination before reaching the level of a best practice, each of them offers the promise of disaster risk reduction and resilience in individuals and communities." @default.
