- W4292303804 abstract "In a concentrating solar power (CSP) system, concentrated solar radiation is absorbed and converted to heat by the absorber element of a solar receiver. Therefore, the absorber is submitted to elevated temperatures and thermomechanical stresses. To reduce heat losses, some receivers have glazing and insulation elements that are also exposed to high temperatures. Theoretically, some types of receivers can attain temperatures of up to 1773 K, which is suitable for driving advanced thermodynamic cycles that have high thermal efficiency. Nevertheless, at present, most of the CSP plants in the world are operating at temperatures below 900 K due to the limitation of material characteristics at elevated temperatures. Consequently, the current research direction is to develop materials and concepts that can allow higher operating temperatures of receivers for driving advanced cycles. In this chapter, thermomechanical considerations in the development of receivers are presented and discussed." @default.
