- W4293586687 abstract "Direct numerical simulations of laminar boundary layer flow on a flat plate with arrays of tetrahedral vortex generators (VGs) for heat transfer enhancement have been carried out to investigate the influence of mainstream angle to the VG arrays. The Nusselt number is highly correlated with the mainstream angle and the highest heat transfer effect is observed when the mainstream angle equals 60 degrees. Based on the analysis of each term of Reynolds-averaged energy equation, it is revealed that the advection induced by a pair of vortices is the dominant factor when the yaw angle equals zero degrees, whereas the heat transfer is enhanced by a turbulent component as the mainstream angle increases. In addition, installing multiple VGs in the longitudinal direction leads to higher heat transfer enhancement effect, which is remarkable when VGs are aligned in the mainstream direction." @default.
