- W4293764889 abstract "In 2020, the Ghana Institution of Engineering conducted an online survey of engineering practitioners in Ghana to improve the ethics culture regarding engineering professional practice. The survey results portrayed a weak ethics culture in the workplace. Out of 262 practitioners, 41% indicated reluctance to report cases of ethical misconduct due to inadequate whistleblower protections and inaction of leaders to address reports. Inflating costs in budget and procurement processes, accessing personal social media platforms during work hours, reporting late to work, and failing to observe time limits set for lunch and breaks were dominant problems in the private and public sectors. The weakest link in ethical decision-making was driven primarily by rationalization. To improve workplace ethics culture, senior engineering practitioners must communicate ethics as a priority, model concurrent behavior for their employees, take swift and fair actions to address cases of ethical misconduct, and implement ongoing ethics training to foster an environment that encourages people to report ethical misconduct." @default.
