- W4295024282 abstract "In these days and age, carbon dots (C-dots) have paid great attention and elicited notable exploration since their discovery owing to distinct superior calibers such as green synthesis, cheaper, low cytotoxicity, being easy for surface modification, resistance toward photobleaching, and exceptional biocompatibility both in vitro and in vivo as well. These bestow them with the great perspective to take over from traditional mediocre fluorescent heavy metal–containing semiconductor quantum dots or organic dyes. Though their photoluminescence mechanism is still debatable and not completely understood, carbon dots have possessed manifold applications, especially in the field of biosensing and bioimaging. Various life-threatening ailments like communicable diseases and cancer if not diagnosed in an early stage, then they could be the reason for the high mortality rate. Carbon dots (C-dots) a somewhat new and rising star in the fluorescent nanomaterial segment, acquire a noticeable impact on various biomedical applications with low toxicity and higher photostability targeting agents. In this book chapter, we summarize the recent progress achieved in the field of carbon dots and provide a comprehensive summary and discussion on the relationship between the new strategies and morphological control. We have also enlightened the synthesis part and their application in bioimaging, drug delivery, bone-specific imaging, the clinical implication of near-infrared fluorescence imaging, three-dimensional fluorescence imaging, fluorescence detection of bone microcracks, and other biomedical fields of multicolor fluorescent carbon dots (C-dots) obtained from diverse carbon-rich sources. Apart from this, some untargeted issues, challenges, recent and future perspectives for the development of advanced multicolor nanoprobes have been reviewed." @default.
