- W4295129675 abstract "I read with great interest the article titled “Dynamics of neurodegeneration in the hippocampus of Krushinsky-Molodkina rats correlates with the progression of limbic seizures” [ [1] Kulikov A.A. Naumova A.A. Dorofeeva N.A. Ivlev A.P. Glazova M.V. Chernigovskaya E.V. Dynamics of neurodegeneration in the hippocampus of Krushinsky-Molodkina rats correlates with the progression of limbic seizures. Epilepsy Behav. 2022; 134: 108846https://doi.org/10.1016/j.yebeh.2022.108846 Abstract Full Text Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (1) Google Scholar ]. In this study, authors used a genetic model of epilepsy, the Krushinsky-Molodkina (KM) strain, to investigate epileptogenic events associated with neurodegeneration during a protocol of temporal lobe epilepsy, the audiogenic kindling [ 2 Vinogradova L.V. Audiogenic kindling and secondary subcortico-cortical epileptogenesis: Behavioral correlates and electrographic features. Epilepsy Behav. 2017; 71: 142-153https://doi.org/10.1016/j.yebeh.2015.06.014 Abstract Full Text Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (25) Google Scholar , 3 Dutra Moraes M.F. Galvis-Alonso O.Y. Garcia-Cairasco N. Audiogenic kindling in the Wistar rat: a potential model for recruitment of limbic structures. During kindling, authors observed a progressive increase on post-tonic clonus and limbic seizure severity which were correlated with the neurodegeneration pattern in hippocampal subfields. Additionally, two different peaks of hippocampal cell deaths were detected, one after 7 seizures and other after 14 seizures. While the first peak was correlated with the emergence of a weak and unstable post-tonic clonus, the latter was correlated with a rapid increase in seizure severity and limbic epileptogenesis. Furthermore, dynamic patterns of neurodegeneration were observed in different hippocampal subfields. As an example, hippocampal granular cells were more sensitive to neurodegeneration during the first stage of the audiogenic kindling, while hilar mossy cells were more sensitive in the later stage of the limbic epileptogenic process [ [1] Kulikov A.A. Naumova A.A. Dorofeeva N.A. Ivlev A.P. Glazova M.V. Chernigovskaya E.V.
