- W4295997934 abstract "Concentrated solar energy can be used to convert liquid or gaseous carbonaceous materials (oils, natural gas, etc.) or solid carbonaceous materials (coal, biomass, organic waste, etc.) into gaseous or liquid solar fuels. This relates in particular to endothermal processes of hydrocarbon cracking and reforming, and also to the pyrolysis and gasification of carbonaceous materials. This chapter focuses on the main pathways for producing synthetic fuels from concentrated solar energy and carbonaceous materials. Solar cracking, also known as the thermal dissociation, involves the decomposition of a hydrocarbon under the effect of temperature. In order to convert carbon monoxide into hydrogen, reforming is generally followed by a stage of conversion through the exothermal reaction of the water–gas shift. The solar energy input in the endothermal reactions allows the supply of the processes with renewable energy and the storage of a part of the solar energy in the form of gaseous fuel." @default.
