- W4296047564 abstract "In this chapter, Sehgal has turned her powers of observation to couples experiencing sexual difficulties and to the primitive intrapsychic and interactive dynamics underlying them. She begins by stating that these difficulties are generally explored via “three dominant narratives”: the attachment narrative, which links such difficulties to insecure attachment patterns and unconscious efforts by the couple to “kill off” fear-inducing sexual desire; the Oedipal narrative, according to which partners fear sharing psychic space and “erect rigid defences against knowing the pain of feeling excluded from the primal scene”; and the “claustro-agoraphobic” narrative, which suggests these difficulties are derived from pre-Oedipal dynamics in the infant-mother relationship. The exclusion of the father in core complex theory seems to the author to introduce problematic considerations from both theoretical and clinical perspectives. The author proposes based on theoretical and clinical considerations, a broadening of our conceptualisation of the potential factors involved when a couple experiences difficulties in intimate relationships." @default.
