- W4297314232 abstract "Investigative interviewing is a social interaction where interviewers solicit information because of security concerns or an interest in a subject an interviewee is presumably knowledgeable about. Typically, interviewers have specified objectives regarding what they want to know. For various reasons, however, interviewees are not always forthcoming with the needed information. Therefore, social influence methods that facilitate disclosure are useful to interviewers. Such techniques are even more welcomed if the method subtly exerts the required influence. An emerging body of work has begun to examine whether the social psychological phenomenon—priming—could be implemented as a subtle persuasion tool. Priming occurs when individuals become internally motivated to perform certain behaviours due to the nudge of an external influence. This chapter reviews the literature and critically examines the idea of priming in investigative interviewing." @default.
