- W4297788165 abstract "Abstract. Eggplant (Solanum melongena) is commonly used as food. However, it also has potention in medication, because of the phytochemicals content in it. One of its activities potention is as an antioxidant. Its antioxidant activities needs to be proofed scientifically, to open the opportunity for the use of eggplant in the future in medication. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research related to the mechanism of action of eggplant as an antioxidant, as well as the compounds that play role. The research was conducted through literature review from research article. The result state that eggplant has potention as an antioxidant, because of the content of phenolic, polyphenols, flavonoids (rutins, nasunins, delphinidin-3-rutinosides, anthocyanins), alkaloids, tannins, terpenoids, saponins, pectin, protocatechuic acid, chlorogenic acid, and ascorbic acid. The antioxidant mechanism is through electron donor and/or complex formation with free radicals, inhibition of Reactive Oxygen Species, and induction of Superoxide Dismutase, Glutathione, & Catalase.
 Abstrak. Terong (Solanum melongena) merupakan tanaman yang buahnya lazim dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan pangan. Namun, buah terong juga berpotensi untuk digunakan dalam pengobatan, karena kandungan senyawa fitokimia didalamnya. Salah satu aktivitas yang dimiliki buah terong adalah sebagai antioksidan. Hal ini menjadi peluang pemanfaatan buah terong dalam pengobatan, namun perlu pembuktian secara ilmiah. Karenanya, perlu dilakukan penelitian terkait mekanisme aksi buah terong sebagai antioksidan, serta senyawa yang berperan atas aktivitas tersebut. Penelitian dilakukan melalui penelusuran pustaka, dengan sumber data berupa artikel-artikel penelitian yang sudah dipublikasikan sebelumnya. Hasilnya menyatakan bahwa buah terong berpotensi sebagai antioksidan, berkat kandungan senyawa fenol, polifenol, flavonoid (rutin, nasunin, delphinidin-3-rutinoside, antosianin), alkaloid, tannin, terpenoid, saponin, pektin, asam protokatekuat, asam klorogenat, dan asam askorbat. Mekanisme antioksidan berlangsung melalui beberapa cara, yaitu donor elektron dan atau membentuk kompleks dengan radikal bebas, inhibisi Reactive Oxygen Species, dan induksi Superoxide Dismutase, Glutathion, & Catalase." @default.
