- W4297841288 abstract "Cell internalizes solutes in the extracellular space and proteins and lipids in the plasma membrane (PM) by endocytosis. The removal of PM that occurs by endocytosis is counteracted by the action of recycling pathways in which the endocytosed proteins and lipids are sent back to the PM. The recycling to the PM takes place primarily on early endosomes (EEs). However, a distinct subpopulation of endosomes with a mildly acidic pH, dubbed recycling endosomes (REs), is also involved in the recycling. In this review, we highlight emerging issues regarding membrane trafficking through REs and its regulators in mammalian cells, particularly focusing on phosphatidylserine (PS), a phospholipid that is highly enriched in REs." @default.
