In the last several years there has been worldwide renewed interest in the High Temperature Reactor Characteristics, the liquid metal reactor, and more recently, the molten salt reactor. There are currently few base materials and three bolting materials approved for ASME III Class A construction at elevated temperature. The rules for construction of Class B elevated temperature components were previously contained in a series of code cases. The rules for construction of elevated temperature core support structures are provided in ASME III-5 Subsection HG, Subpart B Class SM Metallic Core Support Structures . The core support rules permit significantly higher design and operating stresses, provided that all loading conditions are identified and the strain and deformation limits and creep-fatigue damage are evaluated, including the effects of ratcheting, creep, and eventual retightening." @default.
