- W4300029104 abstract "Today when we all are connected worldwide with multiple devices used by a user, it has come up to be one’s responsibility to work towards sustainability and generate a healthy and green environment. Also, many corporate social workers are working in this field making it an attractive area from a research perspective as well. Various organizations and governments worldwide have invested in solar and wind power projects but due to their limited and delayed returns, whereas when we talk about Smart like many products’ smart grids, smart buildings, smart meters, etc., give a return on investment of about 3–5 number of years as compared to that of only green products which we have talked about that is why we have entitled this chapter as smart is new green because in the coming decade it is predicted that everything will become smart towards a sustainable environment. There are many smart products in the market like smart cities, smart buildings, smart energy, smart home, smart cloud computing, smart citizens, smart business, smart governance, smart materials, smart cars, etc., (Zahmatkesh, H., Al-Turjman, F.: Fog computing for sustainable smart cities in the IoT era: caching techniques and enabling technologies-an overview. Sustain. Cities Soc. 59, 102139 (2020)) and this list is quite long and undying. Smart means we are saying the product we are using has its own intelligence power like the smartphone we use in our day-to-day life. In general terms, there are three levels of definition for smart products where Level 1 where a basic mechanism of sensing is there with a simpler communication. Level 2 includes products with an ability to sense and with a means of communication of data with further ability to take corrective action via embedded software. Level 3 is enhanced to Level 2 smart devices where they have an increase in intelligence level with bi-way communication power with capabilities of advanced level like reporting, data gathering, processing, intelligence, etc. In this chapter, we are going to discuss smart products on all three levels with their various applications and implementation as being smart means that we are making a move from a closed island to very well cross-link solutions with intelligence with a vision to ease day-to-day life. Smart Technology implementations will be thoroughly discussed which are working towards sustainability like smart city, smart industrial revolution, smart home, smart energy, etc." @default.
