- W43004344 abstract "Although procedures may be developed using discovery methods, those procedures must be justified by psychometrics to be scientific and reliable. Whereas justification applies to individual tests, this writing emphasizes batteries. Many discovery methods apply to flexible batteries, but these methods do not justify them. Justification requires psychometric validation that usually determines their accuracy to make them reliable. Individual tests are justified, but they represent a one-test, one-condition interpretation. Standardized battery procedures concern the relationships between tests in combinations and comparisons. Batteries refer to brain functioning that is not governed by homeostasis and has a range from about age 5 to adult IQs of 140. This is at least 14 standard deviations (10 below and four above the adult mean). Validation requires either formalized procedures or clinical judgment. Clinical judgment requires demonstration that a procedure can be validly judged, that this procedure is the one that was validated, and that the neuropsychologist has expertise with this procedure. Flexible batteries cannot meet the psychometric requirements for either formal procedures or clinical judgment because they are not consistent from one administration to another or from one neuropsychologist to another." @default.
